London Bookstores
The big chains, like Waterstone's and Borders, have branches all over London with the flagship stores in Piccadilly and Oxford St respectively. Riverside Walk Market (South Bank: tube Waterloo; open 10am-5pm Sat & Sun, fewer stalls Mon-Fri). under the arches of Waterloo Bridge, is one of the best patches for cheap second-hand tomes. Foyle's (173-719 Charing Cross Rd WC2) is the biggest, and most confusing, bookshop in London, but often stocks titles not found elsewhere. Daunt Books (83 Marylebone High St W1; tube Baker Street) has a huge range of specialist travel titles, and general material, in a beautiful, old, sky-lit shop. Zwemmer Art & Architecture (24 Litchfield St WC2; tube Charing Cross, 80 Charing Cross Rd; tube Leicester Square) stocks all kinds of art books while its Charing Cross Road branch specialises in cinema and photography. Books for Cooks (4 Blenheim Crescent W11; tube Ladbroke Grove) is brimming with kitchen potential, and also has a small cafe. |
